What made this bone interesting is that it contained 29 notches, and is considered the world's first mathematical tool. The Lebombo Bone, dated to around 35,000 B.C., was most likely used as a lunar calendar. The second oldest mathematical tool is the Ishango Bone, dating to around 23,000 B.C.
